Stylish Waterproof Cellphone Debuts

Ever feel like answering that important phone call while in your shower?

Well, thanks to the folks over at Fujitsu, your prayers have finally been answered (in style). The new Fujitsu F705i cellphone, which debuted late last month, is now the world's slimmest waterproof 3G cellphone. This new stylish device features Super Clear Voice and Super Clear Mike technology, which means it automatically adjusts volume settings in response to ambient noise levels. And, as a plus to all 007 fans, the device will feature a security function utilizing fingerprint biometrics to identify the user. Katsumi Takada, general manager for the Mobile Phone Group of Fujitsu Limited announced the arrival of the F705i in Japan.

We’re pleased to now offer this unique waterproof mobile phone which combines next generation, all-inclusive entertainment with the convenient security of an AuthenTec fingerprint sensor in the new docomo PRIME series™ phone.

Users of the new F-01A not only enjoy the peace of mind offered by its waterproof capability but also by the integrated fingerprint security which helps protect its stored files and personal information.

Sitting pretty at 13.7mm thick, the Fujitsu handset can handle a 1-meter water submersion for 30 minutes. Now, admittedly, this isn't exactly useful for a scuba diver. However, we're happy to see technology moving closer into our beloved underwater realm. It's doubtful that this phone will ever make it stateside. But, for those of us who spend a lot of time in or near shallow water, an import may be worth investigating.

Do you ever carry your phone with you on a dive boat? Would a waterproof device ease your mind when near a pool or bathtub? Let us know in the comments! And make sure to check out Rock Your iPod At 300 Feet Underwater.

Dubai Beaches Surrounded By Sewage

Dubai_Jumeirah_Beach.JPGWhat's the last thing you would expect to find at the rich and exclusive Dubai beaches?

Late last month, A stretch of the exclusive Jumeirah Beach in Dubai has been closed. The cause? A foul tide of toilet paper, raw sewage and chemical waste. The exclusive beach is a magnet for Western tourists and home to a string of world famous hotels. The pollution is a substantial blow to Dubai’s reputation as an international holiday destination. Keith Mutch, the manager of the Offshore Sailing Club, spoke about the posted warnings throughout the beach.

It’s a cesspool. Our tests show too many E. coli to count. It’s like swimming in a toilet.

The stench was unbearable and the water was a muddy brown. There was toilet paper in the sand.

jumeirah beach hotel exterior.JPGThe cause of the dirty water seems to be a hotly debated topic as well. The city’s wealthy expatriates and local authorities are both pointing fingers at eachother. Regardless of who is to blame, this health hazard is an example of how Dubai’s rapid development threatens to outpace the Emirates’ ability to enforce environmental standards. The source of the sewage was found to be a storm drain where dozens of sewage lorries carrying human waste from Dubai’s 1.3 million inhabitants empty their tanks. City authorities have since promised to build another sewage pit as a “medium-term solution”, but independent tests commissioned by the sailing club show that the water is still badly contaminated with bacteria, human faeces and chemicals.

Should the government do more to protect the environment from the city's booming tourist industry? Would you ever visit a Dubai beach after hearing this disturbing health scare? Let us know in the comments! And make sure to check out Dubai Hotel Builds Refrigerated Beach.
